Remains of an XNUMXth-century building were found near Sophia of Kyiv

During earthworks near Sofia, workers accidentally found the remains of a brick structure.

The works were carried out at the corner of Volodymyrska and Reitarska streets, where the summer terrace of the restaurant stood until recently. the "Evening Kyiv".

According to Vadym Kyrylenko, the first deputy general director of the Sofia Kyivska National Nature Reserve, the building dates back to the XNUMXth century.

"As of today, the foundations of the "tower" with buttresses, with a diameter of about six meters, a depth of more than two meters, and adjoining walls up to one meter thick, have been discovered," he said.

Currently, specialists of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and representatives of the Sophia of Kyiv reserve are conducting archaeological excavations and the necessary research.
