The changes will be made within the framework of the "Iron Ukrainization" program.

About this reports said on the website of the state-owned company.

"Ukrzaliznytsia" is starting a three-year program "Rail Ukrainization", which aims to completely get rid of imperial and Russian names, marks, images on any railway transport facilities. This was stated by the chairman of the board of the company, Oleksandr Kamyshin, during the presentation of this program on February 21, 2023.

"It's time to finally get rid of the Soviet and imperial past, which permeated the Ukrainian railway for more than 100 years, throw everything that binds us and prevents us from developing into the dustbin of history. It is time to fully Ukrainianize the railway," he emphasized.

According to Oleksandr Kamyshin, already in the summer of 2022, "Ukrzaliznytsia" began the process of preparing for the complete Ukrainianization of the railway. All possible legal and technical aspects were studied, and a huge amount of information about objects in need of Ukrainization was worked out.

"On the basis of these data, we have drawn up a comprehensive program of Ukrainization, which does not just change the names and remove Soviet symbols or Russian names, but fundamentally changes the Ukrainian railway," added the head of Ukrzaliznytsia.

The comprehensive program is designed for three years — 2023-2025. During these three years, in several stages, it is planned to Ukrainize everything that until now connected the railway industry of Ukraine with the aggressor country: names of regional branches, mileage marks, signal marks, Soviet bas-reliefs, station names, etc. .

In particular, it has already become known that the Southern and South-Western railways will be renamed.

"Why is the railway with its center in the capital named "South-Western", and the railway with its center in Kharkiv, in the north of Ukraine, "Southern"? This is a legacy of imperial, Russian antiquity, which has nothing to do with the Ukrainian present. That is why, as part of our program "Ukrainization of Railways", we will change it once and for all," explained Oleksandr Kamyshin, Chairman of the Board of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia".
