The legendary Italian fashion house Gucci is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. On this occasion, the brand revived its iconic women's bag with a bamboo handle, releasing a new version of it - the Aria collection, created by the current creative director of the brand, Alessandro Michele. And they decided to present it in a townhouse characteristic of the historical capital of Japan - Matiya.

Matiya is a traditional Japanese urban residential building, usually wooden, with a small shop in the front. As a rule, merchants and craftsmen lived in them. This house, built in the 1920s and once owned by the Kawasaki family, is considered a valuable example of Taisho era architecture (1912-1926).

The spirit of the mother herself has been perfectly preserved: all authentic elements, for example, a tea room with dads and a library decorated with paper wallpaper with floral prints, have remained intact. Brand name he allowed himself only a couple of author's touches, elegantly woven into the historical space - Gucci chairs in the interiors, a carefully selected collection of books on the library shelves, reminiscent of the Gucci bookstore in Florence, the Dom monogram on the sliding doors of the storefront.

Matiya in Kyoto is called the "Bamboo House of Gucci" in honor of the famous Gucci women's handbags with bamboo handles, first released by the brand in 1947. The new Aria collection of the revived series appears here next to bamboo furniture and works of the master Tikuunsai Tanabe from the same material. And the central theme of the presentation continues in the bamboo grove in the courtyard surrounding the house.
