After the full-scale invasion, the People's House, like other cultural institutions of the city, immediately became a point of humanitarian aid. Here they wove camouflage nets, gave out things and free bread. When shelling was very close or aircraft were flying, the workers hid indoors and hoped that the big native building would protect them.
