Architectural studio OMA has developed a project to expand the archaeological museum in Athens

A spiral-shaped gallery designed by OMA Architecture will be added to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

About this reports the by Designboom.

"Our proposal for the expansion of the museum plays on the concept of ἐξέλιξις (exélixis), an ancient Greek word that describes the idea of evolution both in physical manifestation and in allegorical connection to the existing monument. ἐξέλιξις advocates a museum dialogue with modern Athens, unfolding history and antiquity in a continuous gallery, which aims to create a new symbol for the 21st century,” says the OMA team.

An ancient olive tree will be left in the center of the spiral, which should pay tribute to ancient times. At the same time, the gallery will serve as an additional entrance to the museum.
