The Ostriv platform and ArchiLife created a place where each participant can find their "path" in architecture through real experience, interaction, and co-creation within the local history of Chokolivka. 10 days, 10 interdisciplinary workshops, 100 participants from different parts of Ukraine gathered in the heart of Solomyanskyi district.
Throughout the festival, participants analyze and explore Chokolivka at different scales: from courtyards to neighborhoods. We work on this in storytelling workshops with the famous popularizer of architectural history Max Rosenfeld.
Students of the KhSHA, together with volunteers, explore the boundaries of the district at the intersection with the Vidradnyi district and consider the context of the historical heritage of the residential microdistrict: why the (un)comfortable neighborhood contains many significant monuments of Kyiv's history. The participants will begin to explore the historical context and modernist monuments together with Leonid Marushchak and Elmira Ettinger. A group of students is studying scanning and digitizing important architectural monuments together with Serhiy Revenko. How can point interventions change the life of the district?
In addition, as part of the festival, participants worked on landscaping together with Serhiy Bezborodko. As part of the workshop, several green areas were planted and recommendations were developed for planting unpretentious and at the same time attractive plants.
Eduard Dibirivny and Yaroslav Kotsiuba from Urban Reform are working on a contextual analysis of Chokolivka courtyards. Based on the results, improvements will be implemented near the KNUBA dormitory No. 2.
As part of the “Hope Home Nadiya” project, Kateryna Krolenko talks about working with eco-materials, namely about using mycelium as a material in its various variations. A model workshop is also actively operating throughout the festival. Participants in the Re:Ukraine Villages competition are developing models of their projects under the supervision of Vladyslav Hubriy.
A group of students with Max Humenyuk is developing a project to improve the condition of the classrooms in the architectural building of the KNUBA. In the following days, everyone will actively work to achieve a common goal. Communication, working together, and exchanging ideas will be key elements for the successful implementation of all plans and the creation of innovative solutions that will contribute to the development of the space and community.
At the end of the festival, the result will be a courtyard space near the second dormitory, a unique mosaic will be created, and non-standard green areas will be planted. All research materials and a photo exhibition will be presented at the exhibition on June 29 at 16:00 PM in the “Maria” space at 5a Osvita Street.
