ArchDaily has identified 15 winners of the Building of the Year 2022 architecture award

The second stage of voting ended, according to which the 15 best projects out of 75 finalists were chosen.

Online edition of ArchDaily published the ranking of the winners of the annual architectural competition Archdaily Building of the Year. This year, more than several hundred participants took part in it. They were chosen by means of an open vote of users on the platform of the publication of the organizer of the contest.

Voting took place in two stages. At the first, five finalists of the competition in 15 nominations were determined. Currently, the results have been tallied, according to which the victory was awarded to 15 projects - one in each category.

All of them differ in execution style, original idea and functional purpose, but each of them shows a unique view of what modern architecture should be.

Bridge Gallery / Atelier Lai

The new Bridge Gallery bookstore, built on the site of an abandoned estate, is located in a small Chinese village Taoyuan. In addition to selling books, the building serves as a covered pedestrian crossing over the local river.

 

Chapel of Sound / OPEN Architecture

The concept of a rocky concert hall was embodied in the Chapel of Sound project, located in the middle of a mountainous area in China. Due to the combination of mineral rocks and concrete as building materials, the building looks as if it was created by nature.

The semi-open Plaza of Kanagawa Institute of Technology was conceived as a multifunctional educational space on the territory of the Institute of Technology in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa.

Several dozen holes in the roof of the structure create special refractions of light inside the room, which allows you to feel the atmosphere there in a new way every time. The foundation is arranged in such a way that during rain, all accumulated water immediately drains and is absorbed, and the building remains dry.

 

Ca'n Terra House / ENSEMBLE STUDIO

The Ca'n Terra House living space was built in the middle of a sand quarry on the Spanish island of Menorca. The volumes and walls of the room were formed only by crushing pieces of mineral rocks.

 

Niijima Gakuen Junior College Hall & Chapel / Tezuka Architects

The Niijima Gakuen Junior College Hall & Chapel project demonstrates a new perspective on what a modern chapel should be. The transparent facade of the building covers a sprawling ornament on which, according to the architects' plan, a dense forest is depicted - the path of Adam and Eve, expelled from Eden.

 

Law Firm Headquarters / BLOCO Arquitetos + Renata Dutra Arquitetura

The Law Firm Headquarters project is an architectural embodiment of an office space based on all the principles of respect for nature. The headquarters of a law firm located in Brazil was built by reusing existing building materials.

The premises were equipped with a photovoltaic system, a concept was developed according to which rainwater will be reused, and the interior of the office was "greened" with a covered garden.

The designed installation is located at the entrance of a Spanish tobacco factory and leads up a red brick chimney. The structure "fastens" the facades of the buildings in order to return the plant to its original, integral appearance.

 

Camp del Ferro Sports Center / AIA + Barceló Balanzó Arquitectes + Gustau Gili Galfetti

The Camp del Ferro sports complex with an area of ​​more than seven thousand square meters was built in Barcelona. The building has a unique facade - its parts are arranged in such a way that they form cross ventilation, thanks to which air circulation in the premises is significantly improved.

 

50% Cloud Artists Lounge Restaurant / CCD

This restaurant in the Chinese city of Miele was built using only red bricks, without a single nail or metal structure. The facade of the building is formed from interconnected conical structures, and the roof was replaced with skylights so that the room received more light.

 

Second Home Holland Park / Selgascano

The Second Home Holland Park project was created for a co-working center located in Great Britain. Each of the employees has a separate office designed in the form of a transparent cube. Vines were placed on the walls, and special holes were made in the dacha for the growth of plants.

 

Palacio Pereira / Cecilia Puga + Paula Velasco + Alberto Moletto

In Chile, architects restored the historic Palacio Pereira building, built in 1872, to transform it into the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. The creation of a cultural space involved a combination of modern design with historical architectural elements.

The (Re)forming Duichuan Tea Yards project transformed an unpopular tea factory in China into a tourist attraction. The modern look of the manufactory was given with the help of arranging the facades with granite bricks and green plantings on the back of the buildings. A public space and abandoned houses of former employees were also arranged here.

The atrium and stairs of the Batillo House, an architectural landmark of world importance in Barcelona, ​​have been given new colors. Here, they created installations from aluminum curtain chains that capture light and reproduce it in various forms.
