CO-HATY from Metalab is a pilot project of adapting a dormitory into housing for IDPs

The CO-HATY project transforms premises into temporary housing for internally displaced persons in Western Ukraine. In just six weeks, with the involvement of 100 volunteers and EUR 140 in donations, this project provided a new home for 170 internally displaced persons.

MOT (Module of Temporality) is a temporary cultural space built from 27 shipping containers that can be disassembled, transported and reassembled in less than 10 days. Steel sheets from Azovstal and the Ilyich metallurgical plant in Mariupol were integrated into the interior.
Inside is a multimedia exhibition, which presents the works of 28 artists from 10 countries. The project started in Kyiv in February 2023 on Kontraktova Square and has since traveled around three cities of Ukraine.
Reitarska Circle

The project of reconstruction of the rotunda of the modernist complex in 1986 on Reitarska Street in Kyiv was also nominated for a prestigious award. The revitalization of the space was entrusted to the architect Emil Dervish. The main strategy was to bring back the authentic exterior of the building, but at the same time transform the entire functionality and interior layout into a modern complex with several restaurants inside and a roof terrace.
TsNAP in Nova Kakhovka

The project of the building of the Central National Academy of Sciences in Nova Kakhovka by architect Anna Kyrii made it to the longlist of the award. The idea of this project is to make administrative services accessible, transparent, fast and respectful to everyone who applies for them. This idea is embedded in the architectural solution. TsNAP was opened in the fall of 2021, the city is currently under the occupation of Russian troops.

The house is located in a quiet area of Lviv in a quarter of low-rise buildings and cottages and has taken a favorable place in the quarter's infrastructure system. This is a club house designed by Sheremeta Architects Group.

The residential complex "Klubne Mistechko 12" in Ivano-Frankivsk by GaidArt and Atelier Architecture+ is a unique complex that includes twelve sections of low-rise buildings. The predominant number of floors in residential apartment buildings is 4 floors. Individual green recreation areas are provided for residents of apartments on the first floors, and roof terraces for apartments on the upper floors.

The "Katerinoslavskyi" housing complex in Dnipro by Filimonov & Kashirina Architects was nominated. The task of the team is to complete the formation of the architectural ensemble of the boulevard and create a high-rise accent at street intersections.
External protection from the sun, used on the facade, significantly reduces the energy consumption of the building for cooling.

Lviv has the image of a city that is a center of education, culture, sports, tourism and business. The appearance of a new office center from the architectural studio of Andriy Asanov continued the trend of business development in the metropolis, the description of the project on the award website states.

The architects of the archimatika studio paid special attention to the rain garden. Its main practical function is to collect excess rainwater. This will reduce the load on the main sewage system, creating an attractive landscape.

13 houses for IDPs in Chernihiv Oblast by District #1 and architect Oleksandr Petrenko
13 houses for IDPs in Chernihiv Oblast were built by District #1 and architect Oleksandr Petrenko in the de-occupied village of Stary Bykiv in Chernihiv Oblast. The purpose of implementing the project was to breathe life into the village in the conditions of post-war devastation and to fill the village with new energy.
Temporary housing for IDPs "Unbreakable Mothers"

The modular houses "Unbreakable mothers" in Lviv by Sulyk Architects demonstrate how temporary housing can become part of the city's urban fabric and create a sense of home and security. Two-story buildings have a mirrored planning structure. Each building has 13 rooms and can comfortably accommodate from 26 to 52 people.
The Mies van der Rohe Award, named after the German modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was established in 1987. It is awarded every two years for the best architectural projects that offer and embody modern and relevant solutions. This year, projects implemented from April 2021 to May 2023 are taking part. The winners should be announced in the spring of 2024 in Barcelona.
