Heart of the world or habitat. HOME photo project by Felicia Simion

/ Art /

Photographer Felytsia Simion, traveling through her native Romania, observed how the appearance of villages and towns has changed in recent years. It captured the remnants of the so-called old world, as well as examples of the "modern" architectural approach - impressive palace-like residential complexes.

As part of her HOME project, the author tried to decontextualize these buildings by placing them in the natural landscape. Thus, she wanted to think about the transformation of the house as a concept. Is the house still a sacred place that generates vital energy, or are its functions reduced to utilitarian meaning only? Is the house the center of the entire universe or has it been pushed to the periphery?

about the author

Felicia Simion has been looking at this world through the lens of her camera since she was 13 years old (now she is only 25). The hobby began with a desire to travel and get to know different cultures, and grew into a professional activity. Felicia now has an education in the field of photography and ethnography. "Since I am also attracted to words, photography to some extent has become a way of visual storytelling. The stories I choose vary depending on the many aspects of life I encounter. Sometimes I believe that my photography is closer to poetry, in other cases I am drawn to documentary - some call it a lyrical narration of real events," she says.

The presented photo collages were included in the shortlist of the Sony World Photography Awards 2019 in the "Architecture" category.

You are blinded by the gold that glitters in the house of the rich; you, of course, see what they have, but you don't see what they lack
