The project "Kievskaya gostinaya" became the winner of the competition for the creation of a publicly accessible, safe and comfortable public space on Kontraktova Square. The promulgated part involves the construction of a ramp instead of all exits from the subway, the construction of public toilets, bicycle paths, and the creation of tactile navigation.
Ramp
According to the authors of the project, the accumulation of ground transport stops, subway exits and underground passages in one place creates inconvenience for people. Research has shown that one subway exit is enough. In this regard, the architects proposed to remove all the exits and replace them with a new 41 m long ramp, which is suitable for people with limited mobility. Four trees will grow on the ramp, and part of the steps will be turned into an amphitheater. The history of Podol will be displayed on the retaining wall. According to the idea, the ramp should become not only an element of the infrastructure, but also a place for recreation and meetings of the people of Kyiv.

Architects note the problem of lack of public toilets in Kyiv. The reconstruction of Kontraktova Square involves the installation of toilets on the first floor of Gostiny dvor and near the subway exit.

Bike paths
According to the project, two bicycle routes will pass through Kontraktova ploschad. The first: Valy - Pochtovaya, combined with automobile traffic. Second: Pochtovaya - Valy, passing through the pedestrian zone and marked with metal washers.

Tactile navigation
A special place in the project is also given to city navigation. The main pedestrian routes are equipped with tactile navigation for people with special needs. Pedestrian crossings, stairs, transport platforms and protruding objects also have warning navigation and contrast highlighting.

As a reminder, in 2015, the Department of Town Planning and Architecture of the KSHA organized a competition for the best concept of public space organization on Kontraktova Square "KONTR / AKT". A total of 14 projects from collectives from Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv were submitted to the competition. The first prize went to the "Kyivskaya gostinaya" concept, which was worked on by a team from different architectural studios (Vlodko Zotov, Viktor Gerasymenko, Olga Prokopenko, Elena Orap, Denys Matvyenko, Sergey Ferley, Egor Shtefan, Aleksey Pakhomov, Maria Pakhomova and Anton Oleinyk). In 2017, as part of the implementation of plans for the transformation of Kontraktova Square, traffic lights were removed from there and the movement of cars was prohibited, and a part of Sahaidachnogo Street was also made pedestrian.
