On November 23, PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA held a new urban event, the main topic of which was security. Experts from Ukrainian development, architecture, urbanism and authorities were involved in the discussions of the modern urban space in view of today's challenges. Among the famous speakers are Olena Shulyak, Anton Cherkashin, Dmytro Vasiliev, Maksym Golovko. With this event, the PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA team renewed the "Architectural MeetUp" project, the purpose of which is to create a platform for communication at all levels of urban, architectural and design ecosystems. How the event took place and what practical proposals for improving modern safe urban space were voiced - read in our series of materials dedicated to the event.

The Architectural MeetUp, held last week in one of the capital's business centers, was attended by more than 150 guests from the architectural and design community, as well as representatives of manufacturing companies. The program of the event was divided into three content blocks. The first of them in the evening's timeline was a battle of opinions of two invited experts: Olena Shulyak, chairman of the Committee on the Organization of State Power, Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, and Anton Cherkashin, architect, founder and CEO of büro A24D architectural bureau. Opponents debated the security aspects of the relationship between the architect and the authorities.

The first in the evening's timeline was a battle - a confrontation between the opinions of two invited experts: Olena Shulyak, head of the Committee on the Organization of State Power, Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, and Anton Cherkashin, an architect, founder and CEO of the architectural bureau büro A24D

«We will destroy the monopoly of a narrow circle of persons who have state contracts, so that ALL professionals can participate in the design during the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities and villages. Our goal is to attract leading architectural bureaus and independent talented architects, of whom there are thousands in our country, to the competent restoration of the country, she remarked Olena Shulyak. We have a common goal today — the desire to win as soon as possible. And while our Armed Forces are winning at the front, we here in the rear must do everything possible to ensure that our country recovers as soon as possible».

From the standpoint of protecting the interests of the architectural community Anton Cherkashin emphasized the need for changes in the interaction between the authorities and practicing architects: "It seems that most of the architectural community is somewhat distant from the executive power, and even more so from the legislative power. Over many years of work, everyone has found their relatively safe fairway and tries to minimize their contacts with the authorities. And now we are at a crossroads where we must change the rules of the game." finds Anton Cherkashin.

In the second block of the event, a curator and a design historian Larisa Tsybina held a presentation of a conceptual exhibition of Ukrainian manufacturers and designers for the guests "Design for a comfortable and safe urban space", where design objects from domestic brands Vyourock, LOFU, Joyf, Panoptikum Collections, MiMi Fabryka, Container design studio, OdudLab and Dobro.design were presented. All typologies were chosen based on the principle of the possibility of application in common spaces and the urban environment.

"Modern cities combine planning and improvisation, history and future, visual and emotional, knowledge and street wisdom. Our social networks must be created in the real world, we are all part of the same, collectively woven fabric. Comfortable and safe urban spaces influence this process, - says Larisa Tsybina. - To reinforce the importance of functional objects in the urban environment, we created an exhibition within the framework of the Architectural MeetUp, deliberately inverting the scale, where things become bigger and taller than the city."

We will tell you more about the content and results of the discussions that took place within the framework of the urban battle and the discussion panel in the following materials of the cycle "Security as an imperative today."

According to architect Dmytro Vasiliev, the Architectural MeetUp format is currently a timely and effective tool in establishing relationships between the architectural community and the authorities.

Dmytro Vasiliev, CEO, co-founder and chief architect of the archimatika company

"Communication between market players and the authorities is an important component for the development, in this case, the development of Ukrainian architecture. Both groups of stakeholders have unique expertise. We hope that the combination of these different expertises will allow us to obtain complex solutions to problems."

The importance of such a format of events was also emphasized by another participant in the discussions — Igor Raikov, founder and CEO of the development company "Spilnota":

"I believe that such a format should become regular, and in the future the discussion of this kind of issues should find its continuation both among opinion leaders and in various specialized mass media. After carrying out such measures, a general algorithm should be worked out, which will be included in the main program of the Ministry of Infrastructure and will be taken into account by the representatives of the authorities in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. That is, thanks to such regular measures, the representatives of the authorities will be able to take this developed algorithm as the basis of their further actions in the industry. This is probably the main task."

The architectural MeetUp was attended by more than 150 guests of the architectural and design community, as well as representatives of manufacturing companies

"Together, we did not visualize what a comfortable and safe urban space should be like today, but we were definitely able to lay the bricks for the road map in solving certain questions regarding the safety of the city in the context of a dialogue between architects, authorities and other market players" — PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA team.

The charitable mission of the event was to collect funds for the needs of reconstruction and revitalization of the recovery space for military and civilian "HART", which is conducted by the NGO "Association of Responsible Citizens".
